RSB is once again a proud partner of Aviation Carbon Events, the leading international aviation sustainability event since 2012. Taking place 25th-26th November at #London #Heathrow, Aviation Carbon has grown to become a unique networking forum for aviation sustainability experts and professionals who meet with their peers, talk and learn from other industry and solutions experts, make new contacts and catch up with long-established friends. This year will be providing the latest updates on key topics and also we will add much more content of the non-CO2 impacts of aviation on the climate, which has seen increasing interest by policymakers in tackling the issue as well as potential technical and operational measures being developed to mitigate the net warming impacts of contrails. Registration for Aviation Carbon is now open. RSB members are entitled to a 20% discount for 1 seat per member organisation, and should contact RSB to receive the discount code. The aviation industry is about to take a giant leap forward, driven by the need to reduce its carbon footprint and fight climate change. And the key to this leap could be a little-known solution: sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). SAF is made from renewable sources like used cooking oil, farm waste, and even synthetic gases. It's a drop-in replacement for regular jet fuel, meaning it works seamlessly with existing planes and infrastructure. And the best part? It can cut CO2 emissions by up to 90%! But there's a catch: SAF is still finding its feet and faces challenges like cost and availability. This is where ISCC CORSIA comes in. This important certification scheme ensures SAF meets the highest environmental and social standards, and helps businesses tap into the growing market for this groundbreaking fuel. As the sun sets on another memorable summer🌅, with this post we conclude our journey through the Business Aviation Commitment on Climate Change (BACCC).✈️🍀 Today, we venture into the final chapter of this series, unlocking the fourth and last essential pathway that propels the #BusinessAviation sector towards its net-zero emissions goal by 2050: Market-based measures. Read the updated BACCC 👉 https://lnkd.in/exbvV9ZQ Amidst the constant strides in technological innovation, relentless pursuit of improved operations and infrastructure and the acceleration of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) adoption, Business aviation stands resolute in employing market-based measures to offset carbon emissions - a crucial step in honoring its environmental commitments. One prime example of these measures is #carbonoffsetting. This strategy entails taking proactive steps to balance out emitted carbon by supporting projects that directly diminish or eliminate the equivalent volume of CO2 (or other greenhouse gases) from the atmosphere. It's a tangible demonstration of our industry's dedication to responsible growth. Frameworks such as the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for Aviation (CORSIA) and the European Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS) embody these market-based measures. Notably, these frameworks span across the entire #aviation industry as a collective commitment towards sustainability. As we close this chapter, let's embrace the future of #businessavaition with optimism. The journey may be long, but our collective dedication fuels our flight towards a greener horizon.🛫🌱🌏

Third ICAO Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (#CAAF/3) STATEMENT BY GREECE (Presented by Dr. Christos Tsitouras, Governor of Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, #HCAA) "First of all, I would like to thank the government of United Arab Emirates for hosting this important event on sustainable aviation fuels and ICAO for driving aviation sector towards decarbonization. Greece is committed to advance ambitious actions to reduce aviation CO2 emissions, so as to limit the global average temperature increase and the negative impacts of Climate change. It is so important to achieve air transport sustainable development, which is an essential economic pilar for all counties by supporting tourism, trade, connectivity, and economic growth. Greece emphasizes the importance of conveying an ambitious, quantified vision in the Global Framework as the outcome of this CAAF/3 conference, which will serve as a significant driver towards concrete actions to decarbonize the aviation sector. We are also committed to ICAO’s No Country Left Behind initiative and willing to contribute to capacity building and training efforts. Greece supports a global quantified vision for SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) and other Aviation Cleaner Energies, consistent with ICAO’s Long-Term Aspirational Goal for international aviation of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. By using a robust set of metrics, greater incentive to fuel pathways with significant emissions reduction potential can be achieved, thus including all fuels with the ability to contribute to emissions reduction goals. We support a Global Framework that sets out the policies, measures, and support mechanisms that ICAO and its Member States should implement to facilitate the global upscaling of SAF in all regions. And therefore, we should build upon ICAO’s existing structures and frameworks, including the CORSIA sustainability framework, to avoid duplication and unnecessary complexity. We encourage member States, ICAO, and stakeholders to continue with their support to States under ACT-SAF initiative and with provision of voluntary funding for capacity building, so as no countries are left behind and all together support this aspirational aviation path towards sustainability and carbon neutrality."

Airport Carbon Accreditation – A pathway towards decarbonizing the airports Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) is a global carbon management certification program for airports, which independently assesses and recognizes the decarbonization efforts of airports. During COP 28, a new highest level of certification i.e., Level 5 was introduced to recognize airports for achieving and maintaining net zero status for scope 1 and 2 emissions (≥ 90% absolute reduction), and to develop scope 3 trajectory for achieving the net zero status by 2050. ACA Level 5 is a significant milestone for the airport, which confirms the readiness and alignment with the climate goals as per the Paris Agreement. This is a testimony for airports to demonstrate their climate ambitions. Know more about achieving ACA Level 5 accreditation in my latest article. #Airportcarbonaccreditation #Sustainability #Smartairports # EcoStruxure #SchneiderElectric
