Over the past year, my apprenticeship at DRDO's Defence Research Development Organization has been transformative. Immersed in the Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) department, I acquired invaluable knowledge in mechanical engineering. My experience involved mastering techniques like ultrasonic testing, radiography, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing. Working with experts, I learned the intricate processes critical to defense systems' reliability. Beyond technical skills, the culture of innovation at DRDO stood out. Daily challenges fostered creativity and efficient problem-solving. Troubleshooting and brainstorming for cutting-edge projects honed my skills. This environment cultivated a passion for innovation and excellence, shaping my professional journey profoundly. My time at DRDO laid a solid foundation in mechanical engineering, nurturing a commitment to excellence and innovation. Contributing to projects of national significance was fulfilling. Who wants to drive a Lamborghini? My guess is if you asked that question to a group of High School kids a lot of hands would go up. Well why not run a state of the art CNC machine tool that is worth more than that in most cases and sometimes well over that? I've been in a lot of shops and the number one thing we hear is "I can't find skilled labor." There is still a giant lack of understanding of what this industry is, and what a great career it can be for our younger generation. Better yet, opportunities are plentiful. He's just completed an internship he started over the summer in structural engineering. He will be working in Survivability starting in mid-January through the summer.
