It was an insighftful opportunity to discuss the benefits of Community Schools and explore how we can all work together to create a supportive and enriching environment for our students. This incredible opportunity is all about becoming more emotionally intelligent leaders, cultivate well-being for our dedicated staff, and foster a thriving learning environment within our school district. Through this transformative experience, they're gaining invaluable insights and tools to bring back to our district. Summer camps are in full swing! School District of Lancaster's Wickersham ES kicked off their two-week adventure where our students will dive into a world of learning and fun! From coding to gardening, sign language to bucket drumming, and soccer and basketball skills to crocheting, robotics, and STEM activities – there’s something for everyone to discover and enjoy. At Camp WICK, these next two weeks are all about empowering our students with new skills, sparking their passions, and creating lasting memories. As our McCaskey graduates embark on their next big adventure to college, we invite our community to come together and help them on their journey. McCaskey High School's Future Ready Center is collecting new or gently used luggage to ensure our graduates have everything they need as they step into this exciting new chapter. The 13th annual Back-to-School Event will kick off at the stadium at 12 noon Sunday, Aug. 18. Festivities will continue until 4 p.m., followed by free admission to the Lancaster Stormers baseball game against the Staten Island FerryHawks at 5 p.m. During the Back-to-School Event, children receive free school supplies for the upcoming year. They can also receive a free haircut, and their families can learn about available social services. Over the years, the event has grown into a community festival, with music, food, games and other activities. Participation is open to children who will be entering kindergarten through 8th grade in 2024-25 school year. Registration is required. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12. United Way of Lancaster County, PA is helping with volunteer recruitment for the Back to School Event. Dozens of volunteers are needed before, during and after Aug. 18: To sort and pack items ahead of time; to assist with logistics and distribution on the day itself; and to return any unused supplies to storage afterward. #BacktoSchool #Community #communityaction #strongertogether #education

The School District of Lancaster is hiring a director of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, a new position primarily responsible for ensuring the district implements its equity policy with fidelity. The school board adopted an education equity policy in the spring of 2022, committing the district to “addressing barriers that prevent achievement” and ensuring that student outcomes are “neither predicted nor predetermined by explicit or implicit biases.” The policy includes a host of guidelines, directing the superintendent or designee to use diverse curricular materials, analyze student data, review policies and practices with an equity lens, improve employee diversity, and report annually to the board on efforts and progress. “It’s a big, important policy,” said SDoL superintendent Dr. Keith Miles. “We have spent the past two years working with our equity steering committee to implement it, and it has become clear to me and the board that this requires a dedicated individual to ensure that we are implementing with fidelity.” Apply today! #SDoLPA #SDoLProud #Education #DEIB #community #strongertogether
