100% reality! 100% agree! Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) is shaping the path towards a more #sustainable #biobased #future for all of us! European Commission #biotech #bioeconomy #circulareconomy #greendeal #blueeconomy
The European Commission’s JRC Knowledge Centre for Bioeconomy recently published a very interesting report: ‘Exploring Foresight Scenarios for the EU Bioeconomy’. With the help of 100 bioeconomy stakeholders, it provides very interesting foresight for the future of the #bioeconomy in Europe. Many of the report’s recommendations to policy makers are fully in line with the conclusions of Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) Stakeholder Forum and provide food for thoughts for current and future policy initiatives at European level: - Establish coherent policies across bioeconomy sectors - Promote cross stakeholder collaboration - Investing in learning and development opportunities - Unlock investments to scale up biobased markets - increase awareness and education https://lnkd.in/ebGQWNie |John Bell |Rob Beekers |Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC)

European industries call for a bold and impactful Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative🌱🚀 🤝Alongside with 17 stakeholders across Europe are supporting these five core principles for the forthcoming EU Biotech and Biomanufacturing initiative. For the Alliance for Biosolutions the need of a significant paradigm shift towards regulation and legislative framework conditions that prioritize bio-innovation and sustainable solutions based on biotechnology, acknowledging these as fundamental drivers of the green transition is KEY.🔑 Biosolututions such as sustainable sources of protein, bioplastics, biocement and bioasphalt plays a key role in delivering on international climate goals Therefore, the principles should be embedded into consideration of EU legislations, ensuring convergence, rather than divergence, for innovation across frameworks. 🙏 Thank you to EuropaBio - the European Association for Bioindustries for initiating this coalition Learn more about the 5 principles here: https://lnkd.in/eFKUjKRt And re-read our 10 principles for biosolutions sent to the Commission earlier: https://lnkd.in/d4jYxJVi

As I reflect on last month's World Bioeconomy Roundtable on "Investing in Bioproducts – Drivers and Obstacles" at Pulp & Beyond in Messukeskus, Helsinki Expo and Convention Centre, it becomes clear to me that the new bioeconomy that we all aspire will not fulfill its ambition if it replicates the common fundamentals of the classic economy, that is, to maximize short term returns to shareholders. At Suzano we believe we must generate and share value with ALL our stakeholders, with a long term mentality. We must work together, recognizing that the global sustainability agenda requires collaboration and not competition between regions and sectors. Stopping climate change is urgent. Society is slowly understanding this reality, decarbonization and protection of biodiversity are musts and are at the core of our strategy and business. We, at Suzano, are convinced that we are part of the solution through our planted farms and our offering of renewable products to replace fossil-based ones. We are not perfect and still have lots of opportunities to improve our positive impact, but with humility, experience, and hard work, we are determined to plant a better future. I just hope our grandsons – mine and yours – will be able to celebrate our next 100 years!
