Amid ongoing geopolitical tension, higher rates, ongoing market volatility and elections on the horizon, we wanted to find out what was motivating the decision-making of over 800 global institutional investors in Nuveen’s fourth annual Global Institutional Investor EQuilibrium Survey, which launches today. The results show that an unusually high number of investors (93%) feel we are in a period of elevated uncertainty as a result of macroeconomic and geopolitical tensions. In response, we are seeing an escalation in the trends that have been building in recent years, including increased allocations away from equities toward private markets, with a particular focus on those positively influencing the energy transition such as alternative energy and the electrification of transport infrastructure. Find out more about how some of the world’s biggest investors moving decisively to better position portfolios for a new market regime here:

Last week, NorthStar’s Chief Investment Officer and Senior Portfolio Manager, Nimrit Kang, CFA appeared on CNBC's Power Lunch to discuss NorthStar’s portfolio positioning ahead of the Fed’s decision with an emphasis on sticking to the strategic allocation and staying invested in the market. “We are with the market in that the Fed is in a wait and see place having put through 500 basis points of interest increases over the last 18-19 months. In terms of how we're positioned, the only thing we feel very confident about is that we expect higher degree of uncertainty and volatility in the market. With that, we are very focused on risk and in that framework, we're looking at bonds where we can get a 5-6% yield secured by contractual obligations by the US government. That sounds pretty good to us right here, so we are where it makes sense. Where our clients are underweight their fixed income, we are building out fixed income ladders for them and getting them that 5-6% income while maintaining flexibility for them as well.”
