As this week goes on I'll be sharing a bit more about Cultivating Resilience. Firstly, it's important to say right at the start that we are not only interested in formal "gardens". There are so many ancient and historic green spaces where people interact with, care for, and safeguard the other-than-human world. Cultivating Resilience is interested in supporting custodians to transmit their knowledge and practices to future generations! https://lnkd.in/emg2Yw8C

Hydrologist, climatologist, water sustainability. Author of the new book "The Three Ages of Water: Prehistoric Past, Imperiled Present, and a Hope for the Future." Founder and Senior Fellow, Pacific Institute.
Nice review of THE THREE AGES OF WATER from Sierra Magazine: https://lnkd.in/gKwaNftB "If there’s anything about water that’s not covered in Gleick’s book, it’s probably not worth knowing. From water’s origins following the Big Bang to its essential role in the development of life on Earth, the rise of human civilization, religion, public health, the legal system, and technology, to eminently workable ways of safeguarding this precious resource, it’s all contained in this magisterial read…Gleick provides a detailed plan that, if implemented, could not only avert disaster but also create a far more equitable, prosperous, and pleasant world for all creatures, not just the two-legged kind."

Conservation of natural resources, which are the basis for our existence, plays a critical role in achieving a sustainable world. Over the past 60 years, at least 40% of all internal conflicts have been related to the exploitation of natural resources, highlighting their importance and impact on social relations and security. Monday marked the International Day to Prevent Exploitation of the Environment during Wars and Armed Conflicts. This day reminds us of the importance of protecting the environment and the need to stop the destructive exploitation of natural resources during conflict to ensure a sustainable future for us all.

Honoring my ancestors while building bridges for future generations. Indigenous relative, advocate, knowledge translator, researcher, public speaker, science diplomat, boundary spanner, professor.
Hello all! In case you missed my recent presentation of Feb 14th: Building Relationships with Indigenous Nations for Indigenous-led Land and Water Stewardship for Arctic Research Consortium of the United States Seminar Series, I wanted to share the link! https://lnkd.in/ehfMrGvS I share my learning from the Inuit people in Greenland and the Ninilchik Village Tribe in Alaska. This talk addresses building #relationships with #Indigenous Nations for their leadership in nurturing and #stewarding the land through #IndigenousKnowledge. A report by the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services found lands nurtured by Indigenous Peoples experience less species and ecosystems decline than other areas, yet in #Alaska, Indigenous perspectives are rarely included in #management. I discusses current #land ownership and management practices in Alaska and how these differ from Indigenous approaches. I also addresses why the Indigenous approach is so different and what #policies and laws can change to make sure the #waters and lands are healthy and able to support generations in the #future.
