Tuesday 10th October is World Mental Health Day and it is more important than ever to have meaningful conversations surrounding our mental health. The conversation is shifting and can no longer be about awareness alone. This year's theme is "Movement for Mental Health: Let's Invest," highlighting the need for more significant investment in mental health services and to drive changes in policies, systems and attitudes. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthInvestment #MentalHealthAwareness We must support one another in tackling these challenges, and that starts with taking the time to invest in our own mental health and well-being. We must also try to fight stigmas and advocate for open dialogue about mental health. Let's spark meaningful conversations and create lasting change. Share your thoughts on this important worldwide effort in the comments below. #MentalHealthMatters #MentalHealthConversations

We have a mental health crisis in America coupled with chronic underinvestment. This is no more true than in communities of color that can suffer from inequity, lack of access and discrimination. At AbsoluteCare, we are trying to do our (small) part to create access to integrated care considering the whole person including care for behavioral health and substance use disorders. Frankly, with prodding from our clinical leaders, we have expanded our behavioral and addiction expertise now into every community we serve. But, it is not enough and we all need to do better. #beyondmedicine.
July is BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month. At AbsoluteCare, we believe in the power of community and the importance of mental health for all. By sharing our stories, genuinely listening to one another, and offering unwavering support, we can build a more inclusive and understanding environment where mental well-being is a priority for everyone. Join us in promoting mental health awareness and positively impacting BIPOC communities. #beyondmedicine #BIPOCMentalHealth

Tanatswa Chikaura , from a sociological standpoint, this theme, "Mental Health is a Universal Human Right", highlights the interconnections of mental health and social structures. Societal factors, such as economic disparities, discrimination, and social isolation, can significantly impact an individual's mental health. Recognizing mental health as a universal human right emphasizes the need for societies to address these structural issues. Communities, as part of the broader social fabric, have a critical role in promoting mental well-being. Sociological research has shown that strong social networks, community support, and a sense of belonging can act as protective factors for mental health. Communities must create environments that foster social inclusion, reduce social inequalities, and provide resources for those in need. Governments, from a sociological perspective, are responsible for addressing systemic issues that affect mental health. This includes policies related to housing, employment, education, and healthcare. Sociologists often study the impact of these policies on mental health outcomes, highlighting the importance of government actions in ensuring that mental health is a universal human right. In the field of human resources, recognizing mental health as a universal human right has profound implications for workplaces. Employers have a responsibility to create mentally healthy work environments. This involves offering support, accommodations, and mental health resources to employees. By doing so, organizations can contribute to better mental health outcomes for their workforce and, in turn, for society as a whole. From a human resources perspective, promoting mental health at work is not just an ethical imperative but also makes good business sense. Employees with good mental health are more productive, engaged, and creative. They contribute positively to the workplace culture, which can lead to improved organizational performance and profitability. In summary, i would say the theme "Mental Health is a Universal Human Right" underscores the sociological and human resources dimensions of mental health. It highlights the need for communities, governments, and employers to address social determinants, create supportive environments, and promote mental well-being as a fundamental human right. By integrating sociological and human resources perspectives, we can work towards a more equitable and mentally healthy society. #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthForAll
