Date palms are closely linked to the Middle East's history and culture, even mentioned in the Quran. These trees, known for their antioxidant-rich dates, are one of the earliest cultivated plants. Some date palm seeds from 5110 BC were found on Delma Island in Abu Dhabi. Despite the UAE having over 40 million date palms, many dates sold locally are imported. Ahmed Mohammed bin Salem addressed this by creating The Date Room, an Emirati brand for home-grown dates, launched in November. The Date Room grows dates at family-owned farms in Al Ain and the Northern Emirates. They manually pollinate palm trees, a challenging task due to the trees' height. The Date Room offers six main date varieties, each with unique flavors and textures. They sell these dates as they are or paired with nuts, chocolates, or candied peels. #Dates #Emirati #MiddleEast #AbuDhabi #flavors #nuts
