The National Robotarium(NR) has been featured in Energy Voice, a leading global platform for the energy conversation, showcasing their groundbreaking work in integrating robotics and AI to revolutionise offshore wind maintenance. To save you time - here are the highlights: NR is partnering with geo-data specialists to develop crewless maintenance vehicles (ROVs) and uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) for safer and more efficient wind turbine maintenance. Researchers are collaborating with a Scotland-based company to develop remote inspection solutions using drones, which can inspect assets 3x faster and save an average of one tonne of CO2 per asset. Robots are collecting valuable data to fuel predictive maintenance algorithms, enabling technical teams to anticipate repairs before failures occur. Engineers and technicians are developing methods for robots to create highly detailed seafloor maps, identifying obstacles and hazards for precise repair missions. These autonomous drones use X-ray technology to scan the blades, and the resulting images are analyzed by AI algorithms. The data is then used to create a digital model that predicts maintenance needs. These advancements have the potential to greatly enhance the performance and sustainability of wind power.
