Subsea pipelines are pipelines that are laid on the ocean floor to transport oil or gas from one place to another. They're often used to transport resources from offshore oil and gas fields. The design of these pipelines is quite complex, and it involves several factors. First, the pipeline must be able to withstand the high pressures and temperatures found at great depths. It must be able to withstand corrosion from the salty seawater and must be able to resist the stresses caused by the movement of the ocean floor. The design of subsea pipelines is a highly specialized field, and it's constantly evolving as new technologies are developed. One of the most important aspects of subsea pipeline design is the selection of the right materials. The most common material used for these pipelines is steel, but there are other options like polymers and composites. Steel has the advantage of being strong and durable, but it can be susceptible to corrosion. Polymers are lighter and less expensive, but they can be more vulnerable to damage. Composites combine the best qualities of both materials, and they're becoming more common in pipeline design. Another important factor in pipeline design is the route that the pipeline will take. The route must be carefully planned to avoid obstacles like reefs, shipping lanes. Another key consideration in subsea pipeline design is the type of joints that will be used. There are several types of joints, including flanged joints, welded joints, and ball-and-socket joints. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of joint depends on the specific application. Flanged joints are easy to install and maintain, but they can be vulnerable to corrosion. Welded joints are very strong, but they're difficult to repair if they're damaged. Ball-and-socket joints are flexible, but they can be susceptible to fatigue. #subsea #pipeline #design #oilandgas #exxonmobil #certification #womeninenergy #offshore #caesarii #technipfmc #opportunities #opentowork #shell #conoco

Subsea pipelines are used to transport oil and gas beneath the ocean floor. They play a crucial role in offshore energy production, connecting wells to onshore facilities. Subsea pipelines are meticulously designed to withstand the challenging underwater environment. Engineers consider factors like water depth, seabed conditions, temperature, and pressure. The design involves selecting appropriate materials, coating for corrosion protection, and ensuring structural integrity. Interesting article from Offshore Support Journal today, where the tightening availability of heavy lift vessels is mentioned. While on one hand I can understand some scepticism on decommissioning as this has been a "promising market" for a very long period without yet coming to the real boom. However, it has to come to a decommissioning some day. One aspect not covered by OSJ is the cross-over use of these heavy lift assets between different market. For example, the Pioneering Spirit is not only a decommissioning vessel, but also a big pipelay vessel. So if there is a boom in pipelay jobs, the vessel may not be available for the decommissioning boom - or the other way around. Also, as the offshore wind foundation installation is requiring more and more heavy offshore lifting, this market may pull heavy lift vessels away from the decommissioning market as well. On the other hand, having these cross-over markets available for heavy lift vessels, it seems the time is right to bring more heavy lift vessels to the market. At Huisman we are happy that we have been involved with so many of the mentioned assets, including the delivery of the 2x 10,000mt cranes to Heerema's Sleipnir and the 5,000mt crane to Pioneering Spirit. However, many of the large "monohull" heavy lifters come with a big Huisman crane as well, including Jan De Nul's Les Alizés and Boskalis' Bokalift 1 & 2. Curious to learn what my network thinks about whether the decommissioning boom will finally take off or not. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!

Innovative way of laying large pipes and long buried piping.
Probably not everyone knows that creativity in a person also involves a bit of madness. This is how innovative things are born and it also takes courage to invest money without being certain of the result. What you see is our APOLLO, a machine that works with one track at the bottom of the trench, in the middle of the pipelayers, 3 in front and 3 in back, and alone supports the weight of the entire 56” column, eliminating the risk of the pipelayers overturning. Especially in large diameter pipes, and in soft soils, where the trench must have a V-shaped section, and the sidebooms are forced to reach out a lot, it can help! 📢 International Energy News - North Sea🌍Aker BP ASA Awards Heerema Marine Contractors Contract for Munin Jacket in Yggdrasil Area 🛢️ Munin, an unmanned production platform situated in the northern reaches of the Yggdrasil region within the North Sea, is set to see remarkable progress. Aibel, a renowned engineering company, is on board to deliver the topsides of this remarkable project. Aker Solutions will spearhead the detailed engineering of the jacket. The creation of the jacket will unfold at the Heerema yard in Vlissingen, located in the Netherlands. The upcoming months will mark the commencement of jacket procurement, followed by construction's initiation in early 2024. Weighing an impressive 5,800 tonnes and towering at a height of 130 meters, the Munin jacket is poised to make its mark. Its underwater home, at a depth of 105 meters, will be secured by eight piles measuring 60 meters each. The grand installation is slated for 2025, with Aker BP ensuring ample lifting capacity for all installations within the Yggdrasil area. The Yggdrasil area encompasses the Hugin, Fulla, and Munin license groups, nestled between Alvheim and Oseberg in the North Sea. This expansive region holds a vast reserve of approximately 650 million barrels of oil equivalent. The financial commitment stands at an estimated NOK 115 billion in real 2022 terms. Streamtec Solutions are delighted to announce the successful completion of the final weld on the “Ostsee Anbindungsleitung” (OAL) pipeline. The weld connects the offshore pipeline section from Lubmin to the nearshore pipeline section from Mukran. When submarine pipelines are laid from shore to shore, the two ends of the segments must be connected together. For the OAL project of GASCADE Gastransport GmbH (GASCADE) we selected the “Above Water Tie-In” (AWTI) method, which lifts the two pipeline sections off the seabed using offshore davit cranes and buoyancy tanks, and then the two pipeline sections are welded together alongside the installation vessel on a bespoke platform above the sea. The AWTI method was selected as the optimal method due to the relatively shallow water in this stretch of the pipeline route (22 metres). This is a feat of modern engineering; although the lifted weight of the pipeline is only about 400 tonnes, everything from anchor patterns and various loads and stressors have to be meticulously calculated to ensure the process is executed safely. It is about engineering precision rather than brute force. Conversely, despite all this rigorous prep-work and planning, it’s then all about the weather. We needed a suitable weather forecast of 3 days in which the sea is calm enough and the winds are low enough to have the window to execute this safely, not an easy task in the Baltic Sea in January! 🌊 SAIPEM's highly versatile “Castoro 10” vessel laid the entire 50km of 48” concrete weight coated pipeline from Lubmin to Mukran before performing the AWTI and this final weld marks a significant milestone in this ultra fast-track OAL project of GASCADE. In this short project specific animation courtesy of SAIPEM, you can see exactly how the AWTI was performed.
