Something I've been thinking about lately is the role of automation in sustainability. It's not the most obvious connection, right? But when you dig a little deeper, it's clear that automation can be a key player in our sustainability efforts. Consider this: automation can help reduce waste, improve efficiency, and even lower energy consumption. From optimizing energy use in buildings to minimizing waste in manufacturing, the possibilities are endless. But here's where it gets really interesting. Automation isn't just about environmental sustainability. It's also about social sustainability. By taking away mundane tasks, it allows employees to focus on more meaningful, fulfilling work. In my opinion, automation isn't just a tool for sustainability. It's a catalyst for change. It's a way for us to build not just better businesses, but a better world.

Executive Vice President of Europe Operations - Member of the Executive Committee at Schneider Electric; Board member of AirFrance KLM; Conseiller au Commerce Exterieur de la France
I thoroughly enjoyed discussing the vital role of large corporations in fostering a more resilient and sustainable ecosystem at Viva Technology alongside Joe Murphy, Destana Herring, Rachel Delacour, and Dimitri Carbonnelle. During the panel, we underscored the transformative potential of data collection tools, stressing that the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) should be seen as more than a compliance matter—it's an opportunity to drive sustainable choices and investments. At Schneider Electric, we introduced our first sustainability KPI in 2006, reporting it quarterly. Sustainability is part of our company culture, irrespective of department, and we embarked on this journey with our customers and suppliers. By 2025, we aspire to help our top 1,000 suppliers reduce their carbon emissions by 50%. Part of our sustainability journey is our steadfast commitment to #circularity, tirelessly endeavoring to decarbonize our supply chain. Our vision for circularity revolves around using better, using longer, and using again, symbolizing our holistic approach to sustainable product design and lifecycle management. We use better by leveraging more green materials, we use longer by extending the product's lifetime, and we use again by recirculating products, parts, and materials in the economy. While some companies may feel overwhelmed by sustainability requirements, we made a strategic decision 18 years ago to shift our entire company's focus to #sustainability. Since then, our market share has grown exponentially, with a market cap of 120 billion. This demonstrates that investing in sustainability is not only beneficial for the environment but also for business growth. Grateful to all who contributed to my #VivaTech experience! 🙌 Gilles Vermot Desroches Xavier Denoly You can watch our full discussion here: https://lnkd.in/edfrmpmw

Sustainability – this is not just a buzzword, but a central part of the business strategy of Mercedes-Benz. What does that mean? For us, sustainability is not linked to one topic only, but comes along with many facets: from environmental protection and our Ambition 2039, to the importance of human rights in our supply chains, as well as the fundamental role of governance to establish sustainability in our day-to-day business. This multi-layered approach is one reason why we established a dedicated coordination function for sustainability in our company. Since August 2023, this important topic has been in the responsibility of my team and part of our Board division “Integrity, Governance and Sustainability”. Recently, I had the chance to elaborate in an interview what Mercedes-Benz is doing in terms of sustainability and what our goals are as company: https://lnkd.in/d-uCF95M #sustainability #esg #Ambition2039 #transformation #interview Mercedes-Benz AG
