"Being a declared year-round ally is much more powerful and welcome than waving a flag for Pride Month and then disappearing until next year’s parade. The industry needs more root and branch change and less fluff and guff." As we approach the end of Pride Month 2024, big group's Ed Riseman explores why buzzwords can risk DEI messaging coming across as a script, how to ensure they remain meaningful and why year-round allyship is so important: https://lnkd.in/escVhkBz

If you’re like me, there’s so much to do and think about that it’s easy to skip the little wins and just focus on celebrating when we reach the destination. Here’s what I’ve learned though: The celebrations along the way are a lot more important. They build morale for the journey. They build loyalty for the team. They build confidence for the challenges to come. They establish patterns for longevity. They build a culture for noticing when people do great work and helping others repeat it on purpose. When we find moments to celebrate along the way, we encourage the work and behaviors that ultimately move us toward our destination. So the question is: Who can you celebrate this week?

Grishma Jashapara discusses the historical lack of Black representation in the outdoor industry, emphasizing the crucial role of representation in shaping perceptions, breaking barriers, and fostering inclusivity. This deficiency is not only visible in participation but also in leadership and promotional roles, thereby perpetuating stereotypes and limiting the sector's overall development and diversity. #outdoorindustry #sportinggoods #inclusivity https://lnkd.in/eDsZTNDt
Managing Partner at Fusion Associates, spearheading Executive Search and recruitment for Fashion, Luxury, Sport, Outdoor, Home & Consumer Goods. Writes on today's and tomorrow's big issues.
I recently wrote a piece on LinkedIn about the noticeable absence of diversity in the outdoor sector. As an outdoor industry recruiter, I am concerned that many outdoor companies are lacking in diversity. It's no secret that this sector is predominately white and male, and it's a challenge to find people of colour in management positions. My sentiments seemed to resonate with a number of industry professionals, including Sebastian Städtler, Marketing Manager for the DACH region at The North Face. Through Sebastian, I had the privilege of meeting Anthony Owosekun and learned of the admirable efforts he and his team at EMPOCA are undertaking to tackle this issue head-on and at its very root. We're all conscious of the stark absence of Black individuals in the outdoor industry, but how do we confront and change this reality? #OutdoorIndustry #SportingGoods #Inclusion
