For 1,700 consecutive nights -- despite continuous social unrest, hurricanes, earthquakes and fuel shortages -- our partners with the MotoMeds pediatric health hotline in Haiti have been dispatching nurses and moto-taxi drivers to deliver care and medications to sick children in multiple villages. Unfortunately, their incredible record of service ended the other night when armed gangs overtook a nearby police station. Fortunately, all MotoMeds staff were safely evacuated and, amazingly, they plan on re-launching the service tonight. But if it took armed gangs to finally shut them down, healthcare policymakers need to take notice: This model works!! Huge applause to Molly Klarman, Dr. Eric Nelson and the entire MotoMeds team for such dedication and perseverance despite endless challenges. https://lnkd.in/gEtyBJ5H

🌟 Breaking the Silence: Eradicating TB Stigma 🌟 In the heart of the APY Lands, I've had the privilege to witness the resilience of individuals battling tuberculosis (TB). Over the past two years, I've been fortunate to embark on six visits to this community. It's a journey of trust-building, community engagement, and education efforts. Every interaction reinforces the urgency of our mission and the depth of the impact stigma has on individuals and communities. Recently, I had the honour of witnessing a significant milestone – a patient completing their TB treatment. The joy and pride radiating from this individual were palpable, a testament to their courage and determination in the face of adversity. Seeing this photo with the incredible NHC nurse Kim Nicolson, I couldn't help but reflect on the journey it took to reach this moment. This picture captures more than just a patient and a nurse (taken with permission to share). It symbolises hope, resilience, and the power of community support. This patient is not just a survivor; they're a beacon of hope and an advocate for TB awareness in their community. Yet, despite such victories, the battle against TB stigma persists. It's a silent adversary that thrives on fear and misinformation. But with each conversation, each educational session, we chip away at its foundation, replacing stigma with empathy and understanding. As we celebrate this milestone, let it serve as a reminder of the importance of our collective efforts. Together, we can stamp out TB stigma and ensure that every individual receives the support and respect they deserve. Join me in raising awareness, fostering compassion, and championing the rights of those affected by TB. Together, we can create a world free from the shackles of stigma. #EndTBStigma #CommunitySupport #PublicHealth #TBAdvocacy

This recent disturbing trend is fueled in part by the adoption of HIV PreP, Doxy Prep and Morning after pill; policies that do not promote safe sex practices and may encourage risky sexual behaviors, unplanned pregnancies, increased medication and antibiotic resistance as well as STI infections with no cure such as HPV and HSV which by direct extension leads to increased incidence of HPV related cancers. We need to go back to the Public/ Preventive Health policies that worked so well during the HIV epidemic and promote safe sex practices including abstinence and barrier methods as well as HPV vaccination.

PEPFAR: President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief- one of the most impactful global health programs ever created. Being cut. Helps the standing of the U.S. in the world (U.S. spending a lot on weapons/war lately but global health profoundly helps people)- really hoping these funding cuts to PEPFAR can be reversed. Bipartisan initiative (started under GW Bush) and has provided life-saving and life-sustaining antiretrovirals for children and adults with HIV everywhere; also supports other clinical programs non-related to HIV through bolstering infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/gdBsVMca
