🌟 Meet Brittany Smith, Member Engagement Specialist: Building Relationships and Championing Compassion at Tuesday Health! 🌟 We're delighted to introduce Brittany Smith to the Tuesday Health team! With a passion for building relationships, collaboration, and compassionate care, Brittany brings a wealth of expertise to our mission of transforming serious illness through supportive care. 💡 Why Tuesday Health? I was inspired to join Tuesday Health for several reasons. I love contributing to a small startup, where every effort makes a significant impact. The mission of bringing something vital to Cleveland, a community that needs it, deeply resonated with me. Additionally meeting the people at the forefront of this initiative during the interview process and experiencing their amazing personalities was incredibly motivating. Lastly, I have personal connection to the cause which makes my involvement even more meaningful. 💬 Aligning Values and Aspirations: The values of compassion, impactful care and helping those facing challenges align with my commitment to compassionate care and my aspiration to positively impact the lives of others. 🌈 Personal Connection Story: My grandfather's health declined rapidly due to severe heart issues, leading to an unexpected and urgent hospitalization. He was admitted to the ICU, and our family was suddenly confronted with overwhelming information and decisions regarding palliative care and hospice options. The speed at which everything unfolded was shocking and left us feeling unprepared. As his condition showed some signs of improvement, we made the difficult decision to bring him home, opting for around-the-clock palliative care. However, the transition from hospital to home care was far from smooth. The hospital provided minimal support in arranging home care, leaving us to navigate the complexities on our own. The home care services we initially engaged with seemed more focused on their processes than on my grandfather's needs. Despite our best efforts to ensure his comfort and well-being, his condition worsened, leading to two additional hospital admissions within 30 days of his initial discharge. Each return to the hospital was a uneasy experience, filled with anxiety and uncertainty for our entire family. This period was one of the most frightening and stressful times in our lives. The lack of cohesive support and patient-centered care during his palliative journey was glaring. It became clear to me that significant improvements are needed in the way palliative and hospice care services are provided and coordinated.
