The importance of a circular economy and the opportunities to increase the reuse of surgical instruments and medical devices were high on the agenda at the Institute of Decontamination Sciences 2023. Clinical Services Journal spoke to Dan Coole, Managing Director at Surgical Holdings, to find out how this can be achieved. Speaking to Louise Frampton, the editor of CSJ, Daniel Coole highlighted the need to raise awareness to ensure that decontamination units fully understand the contribution that repair services can have in achieving a ‘circular economy’. Quality must be at the forefront, to ensure patient safety, however. He highlighted:  - A need for accredited education to maximise the lifespan of instruments and devices.   - How to prevent common issues relating to instrumentation and medical devices such as endoscopes. - The importance of ensuring quality repairs to avoid costly issues. The Bench to Bedside workshop hosted by The Sontag Foundation and the Focused Ultrasound Foundation concluded today. In the final panel discussion, experts discussed the clinical needs that could be met with LB and how it compares to other methods in clinical workflows.
