This article by Rachel Marano really resonated with me. I "grew up" in a professional world where long hours were "expected" and there was no such thing as "self-care." I might be dating myself here, but for the first time in my career, I recently took a two-week vacation. Now, I'm a huge advocate for "unplugging and recharging." The only other time I was away for longer than two weeks was when I was in Russia adopting my son, and even then, I had work expectations to meet. This experience has shown me the immense value of taking time off for personal well-being. What are your thoughts on balancing work and self-care? Have you found ways to effectively unplug and recharge? #WorkLifeBalance #SelfCare #Unplug #Recharge #ProfessionalGrowth

I am calling out sad. Not sick. Rethinking Empathy in the Workplace Listening to discussions hosted by Adam Grant highlighted some things for me about the role of empathy, especially at work. Here's what I've learned: Some quick definitions for everyone. Cognitive vs. Emotional Empathy(There is a reason why I am not saying Empathetic vs. Apathetic): Cognitive: Understanding others' feelings. Emotional: Feeling what others feel. The Pitfalls of Emotional Empathy: 1. We often empathize more with individuals than groups. 2. Empathy can be biased towards those similar to us. 3. Emotional overload from too much empathy can be exhausting. The Power of Compassion: - It's about actionable concern. - Instead of sharing pain, it's about actively trying to alleviate it. Compassion in Organizations: - Compassion = Warmth + Competence. - We don’t just need individual 'Toxin Handlers'. We need a compassionate organizational culture. - Compassionate organizations prioritize mental health, enact supportive policies, and champion small acts of compassion. Final thought: Let's strive for a workplace where understanding is balanced with actionable care. Compassion can be the key to a more supportive, productive, and harmonious work environment. Feel Free to listen to this great conversation, and tell me what you think. https://lnkd.in/g8d-VuP2

Offering "mental health days" is commendable. But a day off won't fix deeper issues rooted in company culture and daily practices. 𝟭. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗸𝘀: A day off is great, but if employees return to an unsupportive environment, the benefit is fleeting. 𝟮. 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰𝘀: Balance is essential. Understand the energy flow and ensure teams have flexibility in their approach. 𝟯. 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁: Every team member is navigating unique challenges. Approach colleagues with understanding and openness. 𝟰. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀: Beyond days off, offer coaching, counseling, and tools to support mental well-being. True well-being intertwines with daily work practices and culture. Let's prioritize holistic wellness, not just perks. #MentalHealth #FutureofWork #Leadership

In the fast-paced world of our careers, it's all too common to overlook our well-being in the pursuit of productivity. Recent times have highlighted the blurring boundaries between work and personal life, often resulting in burnout and stress. Let's shift the focus towards creating a workplace culture that values mental health and work-life harmony. It's not solely about working harder; it's about finding the balance that leads to smarter, more fulfilling work. 🌟 Here are a few steps we can take: 1️⃣ **Break the Stigma**: Let's normalize conversations about mental health at work. Encourage open dialogue, support, and understanding. 2️⃣ **Set Boundaries**: Create clear boundaries between work and personal life. Disconnect when you need to recharge. 3️⃣ **Flexible Work Arrangements**: Advocate for flexible work options that accommodate individual needs. 4️⃣ **Self-Care**: Remember that self-care isn't selfish. Prioritize activities that recharge your mental and emotional batteries. 5️⃣ **Support Each Other**: Be a source of support for your colleagues. Kindness and empathy go a long way. Lets honor the workforce by recognizing that true productivity thrives in an environment where mental health is a priority. Let's build a future where work and well-being coexist harmoniously. 🤝 Happy Labor Day!!!! #MentalHealthMatters #WorkLifeBalance #HealthyWorkplace #ProductivityWithPurpose
