Our SC-HOOP Project represents a significant step toward achieving a #circulareconomy for plastics. 🔬 What is Hoop® Technology? Hoop® is our proprietary #pyrolysis technology designed to valorize plastic waste that is currently not recycled towards #mechanicalrecycling. Hoop® process significantly improves the circularity of plastic products: by chemically recycling plastic waste, we can close the loop on their lifecycle. Hoop® technology complements our mechanical recycling efforts, ensuring a more #sustainable approach. Hoop® is the only Italian project among the 41 winners of the EU Innovation Fund. 🌟 Join the Movement! As we work toward ambitious EU recycling targets, the SC-HOOP Project demonstrates that innovation and collaboration can drive positive change. Let’s continue to close the loop on plastics and create a more sustainable future together! LAUNCH EVENT: Join us in Our Circular Response to Current Plastic Consumption! As the world's population grows, so does our consumption of materials - with huge negative consequences for our planet. Plastics typically follow a produce-use-dispose process that generates waste and environmental concerns. However, there are ways to keep plastics in the loop and avoid this harmful cycle. Our research at Aalborg University contributes to paving new ways to achieve this. One example is the UPLIFT Project, coordinated by Cristiano Varrone (万思诺), where plastic packaging waste is biologically depolymerised and converted into more renewable and easily upcyclable polymers, following a biorefinery approach. See https://upliftproject.eu/ Other examples are: 🌊 The project Fluxes and Fate of Microplastics in Northern European Waters (FACTS) coordinated by Jes Vollertsen. See: https://lnkd.in/eNg7KcrC 🍼 The Grand Solutions Project Recycling High-Quality Industrial Plastics coordinated by Jesper deClaville Christiansen. See: https://lnkd.in/ezuGzvAS ⚗️The Novo Nordisk Challenge Recovery of extracellular polymers from wastewater treatment residuals as a new circular biopolymer (REThiNk) led by Per Halkjær Nielsen. See: https://lnkd.in/eZ6PMw2X We know by now that plastics circularity requires novel and systemic solutions across the value chain - a rethinking of materials, products, technologies, supply chains, consumer behaviour, business models, etc. Therefore, we launch the cross-disciplinary platform AAU Circular Plastics to boost research synergies and foster collaboration between academia and the industry. Disposable Plastics: The issue with Single-use plastics lies in their short lifespan and the pressing need for their prompt disposal🚮, making them particularly hazardous⚠️. Approximately 50% of all plastics produced are single-use plastics such as packaging, bags, bottles and beverage cups. SUP endangers the marine ecosystem🪼 and poses serious harm to human health and the environment🌍 as it degrades into microplastics. Let us delve into the factsheet📑 and raise awareness for a cleaner and greener future🍃 together. #climateaction #climatechange #sustainability #carboncredits #platicsrecycling #plasticpollution #singleuseplastics #beatplasticpollution #soclinetech
Do you know?💡Out of the seven billion tonnes of plastic waste produced worldwide to date, only a fraction, less than 10 percent, has been recycled so far. Global Recycling Day was created in 2018 and celebrated on 18th March every year📆, as recycling is an essential component of the circular economy. Especially, Single-use plastics are suffocating our planet. They are seen everywhere, from peaks 🏔️to waves🌊, and have become an integral part of our lives. Check out these eye-opening facts📰 about the Single-use plastics numbers and the EU directive to combat plastic pollution while promoting recycling. In alignment with the EU objectives, the Biolamer Project takes an innovative approach aiming to shift away from traditional linear single-use plastics to circular bioplastics🍃 through the utilization of bio-based feedstock in manufacturing biodegradable biopolymers and bioplastics.
