FAQ – Where does your funding come from?   Funding for the Freshwater Institute comes from public and private partnerships. Our primary funding is through a partnership with the USDA Agricultural Research Service. Since 1990 we have worked cooperatively with USDA to pioneer the research, development, and implementation of recirculating aquaculture technologies that reduce dependence on imported seafood and wild fisheries by empowering domestic production capacities, protecting natural resources, and increasing access to high-quality seafood for U.S. consumers.   Additional partnerships provide funding to support various sustainable aquaculture projects and activities. Public partners include the US-Israel Binational Agricultural Research and Development Fund, the Norwegian Research Council, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the USDA Agriculture and Food Research Initiative. We also work with commercial companies to advance research that has an immediate impact on aquaculture producers through improved materials and supplies they purchase for operations. Commercial partners include feed and feedstuff suppliers, equipment suppliers, and biotechnology companies.   #aquaculture #RAS #FIResearch #seafood

So true Yoav Rosen #innovation and #alternativeingredients are a must #insects in general and #bsf in particular can have existing positive #environmental impacts for the #aquafeed industry. In order for that to occur companies must actively develop supply chains for insect ingredients for securing future supply.   A key success factor is having a facility close to good waste streams and fish production, distributing the costs among all involved parties in the whole value chain (processing, transportation etc.) FreezeM can offer increased stability, consistency, and production volume for insect #protein producers that supply ingredients to feed companies lowering the barriers of entry and scaleup.
