Did you know that over 12,000 animals in Fort Wayne needed assistance from local shelters last year? This year our Community Service Committee voted to help a local animal shelter. Our incredible employees collected items from the Humane Fort Wayne's Wishlist. It's amazing to see just how much we were able to collect to make a difference in the lives of these furry friends. Early next month we will also volunteer with Humane Fort Wayne’s Pet Food Pantry by packing food to help feed hungry pets in our community. A big thank you to our employees who have and continue to make a positive impact in our local community.

announcing petsafari.tv ! a website i just helped launch that lets you easily upload videos of your pets to create mini-documentaries with narration. It costs 12$ to create 10 unique videos and we are donating half of the proceeds to animal welfare groups. The results are always amusing, I recommend using it to entertain your family members with mini-documentaries of their pets. Here’s a fun demo using an old video of my mom’s dogs Pema and Eddy. you can also interestingly upload other kinds of videos, I have tried it on a few of my animations, it's pretty fun. Give it a try and let me know what you think! :)

Virtual Workshop: Safer Together - Cross-Reporting for Humane and Human Services An increasing number of states are requiring child and adult protective services caseworkers, social workers, counselors, and veterinarians to report suspected animal abuse, and humane and animal control officers to report suspected abuse of children and older adults. Sadly, Pennsylvania lags far behind the national movement that recognizes that animal cruelty and other forms of family violence are Linked, and that by preventing one can prevent the others. This workshop is important because it will introduce you to compelling evidence Linking animal cruelty and neglect to domestic violence, child abuse, child sexual abuse, and elder abuse. We’re going to introduce you to the concept, explain what you need to know about it, and show you how it’s being addressed elsewhere and what YOU can do about it. Presenter: Phil Arkow, National Link Coalition A virtual workshop – Wednesday, February 28, 2024, 12 pm – 1:30 pm (1.5 CEs for social workers with application to NASW- PA) Registration open January 8 – February 26, 2024: https://buff.ly/4bTQkAq

Child to Parent Abuse expert by experience| PEGS Founder | Supporting Parents | Training Professionals
Do you consider pets when working witb families where child to parent abuse is occurring? PEGS is hearing more and more about the cruelty and killing of pets You can download our survey for free at https://lnkd.in/eXwaJJTF
*trigger warning, mention of animal abuse* The PEGS team are hearing more cases where animal abuse is also occurring alongside child to parent abuse. It is vital that we include risk and safety of pets when discussing any form of domestic abuse. Often the much loves pet is used as a tool for coercion and control of a parent and in some situations we have heard how siblings pets are been targeted and harmed or sadly killed to intimidate or control a sibling too. There are some incredible animal services out there who can provide support, services such as Dogs Trust and their freedom project. If you are concerned about an animal please do speak to someone about your concerns.

A newsletter from Morning Brew hit my inbox with the following statistics: The number of stray dogs in US shelters has increased by 22% since 2021, per data from the Shelter Animals Count database. Canine deaths in shelters are up 27% from last year and 78% from 2021. The Bloomberg article is linked below. Those who work in rescue, unfortunately, knew this could happen. Most folks who adopt dogs are first time dog owners. They finally had the time to stay home, acclimate a dog and have a companion during difficult times. But then, they were called back to the office… and things got tricky. I’ve met a good number of pandemic dogs and the most common issues I see are: - Social awkwardness to full on reactivity towards dogs, humans and/or both - Separation anxiety Both difficult to handle during swift RTO mandates. We ask folks who adopt dogs to stand by them, but how can they when their livelihoods are at risk? These policies not only cause harm to humans. These policies are killing dogs. I repeat: Canine deaths in shelters are up 27% from last year and 78% from 2021. If you’re in the C-suite or a decision maker for RTO you can make a donation to Rain or Shine Rescue rescue here: https://lnkd.in/eh-SKpwu Please like, share, comment for reach. #rescue #shelter #dogs #foster #adoptdontshop

Domestic violence and pet abuse are interconnected issues. The National Network to End Domestic Violence reveals that abusers often target pets as a means to exert power and control over domestic violence survivors. They may harm, threaten, or even kill pets to intimidate and coerce survivors into silence. Seventy-one percent of pet-owning survivors entering domestic violence shelters reported that their abuser had harmed their pets. Raising awareness about the impact of domestic violence on pets is crucial. When you come across such situations, it is essential to speak out, offer assistance to the domestic violence survivor, and ensure their pet's well-being. You can report animal abuse or neglect to the county sheriff's office or the animal control department in your county. If you witness an animal in a life-threatening situation, call 911. The Animal Rights Foundation of Florida provides a list of links to animal control departments in each county in the state of Florida. #DomesticViolence #AnimalAbuse #PetSafety #BreakTheSilence #EndAbuse #SafeHaven #FamilyProtection #NNEDV #ASPCA #BaillargeonLawFirm

Helping Main Street businesses develop robust corporate credit and have all the money they need to build the business they deserve WITHOUT putting their personal assets at risk
We can do better
WAKE UP CALL!!! At the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in New York, their kennel is so overrun, some of their animal residents are being housed in their offices. Animal shelters are filling up with beloved pets whose human families can no longer afford to take care of them. Experts say it's happening across the country. Ashley Jeffrey Bouck, CEO of Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, told CBS News, “Unfortunately, as we're seeing more and more animals entering our shelter, we're not seeing the same rate of animals leaving our shelter. Our adoption numbers have been down about 5-to-9% year over year, but our stray numbers have increased about 40%. So unfortunately, as we've seen, maybe ten dogs come in each week we’re only seen five dogs go out. And this way our kennels are staying fuller longer.” At the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in New York, their kennel is so overrun, some of their animal residents are being housed in their offices. Food and veterinary care cost the average cat or dog owner between $500 and $1,000 per year. Some shelters are waiving fees to get pets adopted, especially for large dogs. But full kennels have unfortunately become common. “It's been going on for over a year now and unfortunately has only gotten worse. And we're seeing this not just here in the capital region of New York, but we're seeing this throughout the entire United States. And it is a crisis,” Ashley Jeffrey Bouck added. According to the organization Stray Animals Count, more than 654,000 dogs and cats in the United States have been relinquished by their owners between January and November 2023. If unable to adopt a pet, shelter executives say temporary fostering, food donations, and even volunteering to take dogs on walks can greatly help pets in need. https://lnkd.in/gUa4Vbkf

Being a pet owner, it's important to think add your furry family members when you create a Will. If you don't, and something unexpected occurs, your cherished furry friend might end up in an animal shelter if their is no one to care for them. Fortunately, you can easily prevent this by having a plan that includes guardians for your pet, and you can include money to cover their care. #ConfidenceWills #PetsInWills #PetsAreFamily
