Panel on The Democratization of Space Stimson Center 7 Nov 2023 Space was once the preserve of great powers, but today it is increasingly accessed by a range of state and non-state actors. The decreasing costs for launch and space hardware have lowered the barriers to entry, democratizing access to orbital space. The space economy is booming, with some estimates projecting it to reach a trillion dollars by 2040. At the same time, intensifying great power competition raises other dangers in space. The international community has only just begun to grapple with the implications of these developments for national security, the global economy, and global governance. This panel addresses the implications of the democratization of space, focusing on both the promise and perils of this new space age.

18 short months ago, Spaceflux was little more than an ambitious idea fuelled by a passion for space and a commitment to its safety and sustainability. Fast forward to today, and we've done what some can only dream of: we've landed not one but three multi-million contracts with the UK government, cementing our leadership in Space Situational Awareness. This extraordinary moment in our story would not have been possible without the wisdom imparted by the Creative Destruction Lab, the relentless dedication of our Spaceflux team and its advisors, the technical genius from Kodin Soft, and the inventive vision from League Design Agency. Each step, from ideation to execution, has been carved out with their support, making this celebration as much theirs as it is ours. Together, we have turned vision into reality, and with organisations around the world now turning to us for solutions, we are setting our sights on new horizons. Our heartfelt thanks to our mentors, our team, and our partners: Spaceflux team and key partners Kodin Soft, League Design Agency, PlaneWave Instruments; Advisors Tim Theroux, Tom Johnson, Simon Edrich, Dinko Manolov, Chris Lewicki, Gunter Eren B.A (Law) Hons. "It is not the finite report as an output of the Space Industry Act 2018 Review that we at Skyrora are congratulating, it is rather the change and dynamic in place reflected in it, which will...allow both industry and regulator collectively to leap forward and speed up on our trajectory to greater prosperity, driving and informing skills, to greater scientific driven transformation." -Alan Thompson, #Skyrora Learn more about the the Space Industry Act 2018 Review and its potential to positively transform the #UKSpace sector here: https://lnkd.in/ed_c8bji

Space Systems Command (SSC) of the U.S. Space Force has launched a Tools Applications and Processing (TAP) Lab in Colorado Springs, aiming to enhance space domain awareness through collaboration. With a design to foster partnerships among government, industry, academia, and allies, the TAP Lab will initiate its endeavors with "Project Apollo" on October 26, 2023. This project is a collaborative tech accelerator inviting key stakeholders to address challenges in space domain awareness. Lt. Gen. Mike Guetlein emphasized the importance of mastering space data, suggesting it could be the deciding factor in strategic outcomes. The lab, inspired by SSC’s missile warning TAP Lab, offers a platform for experimenting with data, including AI applications, with the goal of quickly integrating effective solutions into operations. Major collaborations are underway with entities like MITRE and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and the lab plans regular innovation cycles with external partners. Their mission is to advance space defense capabilities, fostering a future where space remains a strategic advantage for the nation. #spacesystems #taplab #coloradosprings #spacedomainawareness #projectapollo #usspaceforce #innovation #techaccelerator #spacedefense #collaboration Source- https://lnkd.in/g6cD9Rhn Get today's top US Federal Leading Tech stories in a quick 3-minute digest.
