Some takeaways I left the audience with: 1) Don't forget to be clear about the mission of your company. Younger people want to take part in a journey, not just clock in and out and receive a paycheck. 2) Digital tools are a must. Gen Z is a digital generation. Ask a new employee if they can review how you perform manual tasks and make a case study on how your business can implement ChatGPT. This will make you look like a forward-thinking leader. 3) Take social responsibility. Millennials want leaders who take social responsibility; Gen Z expects it. For us at Forecastly AI, the whole business is centered around reducing food waste, which makes our recruitment process a lot easier. It was also amazing to see Ida Holo live. She is a rockstar. It was a very inspiring morning on Friday as Veriteer hosted our second Discovery Breakfast of 2024, focusing on the topic of "Connecting Strategy to Execution". The discussion was rich and ranged from strategy, workplace culture and the future of AI. Some key takeaways: - Good leadership is pivotal: Leadership plays a pivotal role in creating strategies that execute well. - Strategy needs to be created: Strategy is the output of good vision and values - it needs to be communicated to all levels as clearly as possible. - Success is found in feedback loops: The success of strategy and execution depends on a strong feedback loop, clear objectives and a sense of accountability. - Psychological safety is key: Once clearly communicated, instil trust in your people, and empower them to ask the right questions. - Spend time on what really matters: Leaders need to spend their time in the right altitude of problem-solving. 🌟 Just returned from the Delphi Economic Forum, where we had the opportunity to connect with incredible individuals and exchange profound insights on evolving leadership skills to tackle today's business challenges. On a distinguished panel about leadership development, Maira Folia, our co-founder, spoke passionately about the importance of emotional safety and nurturing a growth mindset in today's workplaces. Focusing on the growing impact of fear and insecurity at work, Maira brought up some eye-opening research from EY, HELLAS EAP, and the University of Athens (Ethnikon kai Kapodistriakon Panepistimion Athinon). She emphasized on data that demonstrates that stress is a big influence in today's corporate world—many are struggling with fear, anger and nervousness. Maira went on to cover how external pressures like rising living costs, shifts in politics, the introduction of AI, hybrid working models, and the presence of four generations in the workplace are reshaping our environments. My appearance on BBC Business Report last week sparked some great conversations. Adapt or die has always held true, particularly in business, and it’s clear that the challenge for businesses remains how to do this at pace and scale. AI is in fact just another new driver for innovation and change – a real opportunity to improve how we work. Recent research by ManpowerGroup found that 54% of employers are seeing AI as having a positive effect on employee recruitment, upskilling and engagement. But we also know that we’ll need to leverage the intrinsically human capabilities of our workforce to compliment technology’s advancement. Many have set up a skunk works including ‘innovation gurus’ and ‘boffins’ to push forward innovations and incubate new ideas. However, unless the people across your organisation are open to change AND feel safe enough to take a risk, it’s likely you’ll be stuck with the status quo or at best, glacially slow rates of change. In fact, I was recently working with a group when one of the team shared their timetable for the launch of a new process. Quick as a flash, from the other side of the room I heard a complaint – “I had that idea ages ago, but no-one would listen to me!” – that, is a recipe for glacial rates of change. So, what makes the difference? Well, leadership is the way that an organisation brings oxygen and energy to the wider ecosystem – just like an organism. If a leader possesses a positive ‘can-do’ approach, demonstrates an openness to new ideas and welcomes challenge, all while maintaining a focus on learning from their mistakes, remaining humble and recognising the contributions of others (to name but a few) the system can thrive. During my BBC interview I talked about the importance of mindset – the beliefs that we each carry round with us. Do you and your workforce share a set of beliefs that say: if you work hard at something you can improve and become great at it, that setbacks are a chance to learn, and that reward comes as a result of effort? Do you and your employees believe persistence will pay off, that the development and growth of one’s abilities is an ongoing process and that its good to venture outside of your comfort zone? If so, you’ve successfully fostered a GROWTH MINDSET – one that will carry you forward in times of change. Alternatively, if you and your workforce believe that talents are innate, that mistakes define you and must be avoided at all costs and that feedback is a judgement rather than a chance to develop, then you’ve fostered a FIXED MINDSET – one that will challenge your ability to flex in times of change. How you lead is just as important as what you deliver, and having the right mindset plays a crucial role in creating impact within the context of your organisation.
