A Glimpse Behind Financial Empowerment in Kern County: Take a sneak peek at last week’s event where we captured some exclusive behind-the-scenes moments. Our very own Cristian Campos & Gloria Aguirre were at the forefront, imparting their wisdom about the advantages of credit unions. They delved into the myriad of benefits that come with membership, highlighting why it stands out as a more favorable option compared to traditional banking. Did you know? Credit unions are unique in that they are not-for-profit institutions. This means they prioritize the financial well-being of their members over profits, often resulting in lower interest rates on loans and higher interest rates on savings accounts, compared to traditional banks. They’re all about empowering their members and communities, making them a smart choice for those looking to make the most of their money! . . . . #STRATAsphere #FinancialLiteracy #CommunityEmpowerment #StrataCreditUnion #FinancialEducation

On this date, June 26, a significant historical event for credit unions in Florida occurred in 1934 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Federal Credit Union Act. This legislation established the foundation for the federal credit union system, allowing credit unions to operate across state lines and providing a legal framework that has enabled their growth and development ever since. This act was pivotal in promoting financial stability and security for millions of Americans, including those in Florida, by making credit available to individuals who were often underserved by traditional banks (MyCreditUnion.gov) (NCUA). #creditunionhistory #Floridacreditunions #Credituniondifference #Creditunions #Americascreditunions #Federalcreditunionact Additionally, the passage of the Federal Credit Union Act led to the creation of numerous credit unions across the state, helping to build stronger, more financially stable communities. This day marks an essential milestone in the history of credit unions, highlighting their role in fostering cooperative financial services and supporting local economies (NCUA). For more detailed information, you can explore resources at NCUA and MyCreditUnion.gov (MyCreditUnion.gov) (NCUA).

On 4th April 1979, the House of Commons and House of Lords passed the Credit Unions Act, making it law. For 45 years, the sector has been through many changes. First, starting as volunteer-operated small savings and loan clubs where many now employ paid staff and some offer current accounts and mortgages. As our CEO James Berry states, “Without the 1979 Act, the credit union sector would not have been able to grow and develop to serve communities around the country with affordable, fair financial services”. Here’s to the next 45 years! #CreditUnions #BetterTogether
