#OTD 🏦 West Community Credit Union began as Brentwood Mutual Credit Union on this day in 1936. The first meeting was held in Brentwood City Hall organized by 15 businesses & civic leaders with $150 in capital. For the first few months, we operated out of the basement of City Hall from 7-9pm each Monday (can you even imagine?! 🫣) before finding a home at Bley Eichler's Barber Shop and adopting regular business hours. Today West Community is a progressive financial institution with over $469 million in assets, 32,700 members, over $403 million in loans, and branches throughout the STL region (and Columbia). Cooperation at work! Happy Founders Day 🥳

At least appraisal bias is on the general public's radar - I don't recall it being widely discussed before the 2010s, though admittedly I wasn't in the housing field before then. "'To help eliminate racial and ethnic bias from home appraisals, we must ensure that the industry looks like America.' ... Under the terms of the Agreement, The Appraisal Foundation is required to establish a $1.22 million scholarship fund, which will be utilized to cover the cost of aspiring appraisers to attend Practical Applications of Real Estate Appraisal (PAREA) programs."
