Check out Shame of Chicago, Shame of the Nation, our docuseries that explores how housing segregation practices in Chicago contributed to the vast racial wealth gap that exists today. #housingsegregation #racialwealthgap #wealthgap #Chicago
"In the four-part 'Shame of Chicago, Shame of the Nation,' filmmakers Bruce Orenstein and Chris L. Jenkins trace a direct line from white Chicagoans using everything from bombs to legal documents to prevent African-Americans from living in their neighborhoods, through entrenched segregation and into the modern day’s wide chasm between Black and white household wealth." #Chicago #WealthGap Learn more: https://bit.ly/3VEsXoz

I make hard conversations easy. Because everything you want is on the other side of a hard conversation. I help CEO's and Business Owners with high stakes conversations and decisions. Family Business Expert/CEPA
You know those topics you often avoid in order not to get in an argument with someone? Topics like, politics, religions, money etc. But here is the thing: 𝐈𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. That's why I love the conversations that others avoid! Because that's how I discover what really matters to people and how they see the world. That's how I connect deeply with others. That is why I am thrilled to be moderating for the New Threads Theatre Company at the Greenhouse Festival next weekend!! Because at New Threads, theater is a tool for generating provocative conversations. It's a chance to talk about the things that matter and in the process, deepen our connections with a community. Next Saturday at 2pm is the staged reading of "Malum County." I've read this script and it is definitely provocative. "Malum County" evokes questions around parent responsibilities for their children's actions, and questions about communal vs. personal responsibilities for guns and behavior. Sounds juicy, right? I hope you will join me for the show and stay for the talk back where we will get to hear audience's thoughts and perspectives. Malum County by Madison Haugland Leal Directed by Kevin Slay Performed by: Performed by William Gillean, Kami Martin, Patrick Brien @Lissa Slay, Damian Arteaga, Toby Gubert Talk back moderated by ME! Experienced Sales Leader | Accelerating Revenue Growth, Cultivating Strong Partnerships and growing successful teams with a human centric approach
It is truly disheartening to witness the challenges faced by our society today, especially when it comes to well-being and safety. I firmly believe that in order to make a significant impact and save lives, we must start educating and instilling important values in children from the early years of schooling. By introducing comprehensive education programs that address crucial topics such as mental health, empathy, and conflict resolution at a young age, we can equip our future generations with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of life and build a more compassionate and supportive society. It is imperative that we prioritise the implementation of these educational initiatives, as they hold the potential to make a profound difference in the lives of our children and ultimately shape a brighter future for all. #education #youngminds #knifecrime #actioniseverything #earlychildhoodeducation

Yesterday we joined our client Idris Elba at Parliament Square as we launched his campaign “Don’t Stop Your Future”. And it is one of the most powerful campaigns I have witnessed. Clothes were laid out and displayed in Parliament Square, to represent the victims of knife crime. Between July 2022 to June 2023, 247 people lost their lives due to knife crime, these were predominately teenagers and young adults. Idris’ campaign works with local communities and brands to tackle serious violence and pleads for immediate government action on banning and law change on the sales of machetes and zombie knives. He has also released a single, “Knives Down” highlighting the impact of knife crime on the British youth community. But, this is just the beginning of a crucial and poignant campaign to urge government cooperation. 'Don't stop your future.' Even the words are empowering. When speaking to young people they don't always connect to the fact that a knife can kill. 'I use it for protection.' 'I carry it just incase.' 'It's just something that everyone does.' 'Why not?' Part of my work involves inviting young people to participate in bushcraft activities. This involves working with sharp knives. As a professional I truly believe open discussions around safety, trust, understanding and awareness can change the use of 'knives into a tool rather than a weapon.' (a quote a fellow fascilitator shared). So much work to do and this is one powerful step taken. #knifecrime #awarenesscampaign #letstalk #youngpeoplematter

As a member of the human race on this planet I am grieved with the fact that an intelligent species continues to kill each other. 😢 Where we live, how we live, what we believe, how we dress, what we wear, how we talk, how we look, is all used to create "US and THEM" and once that is done then it is easy to progress to "eliminate THEM". All the media, politicians and "media hungry Do-Gooders" go on about is pointing our attention towards the TOOLS used in crimes and not focusing on the REAL IMPORTANT issue, the criminal committing the crime. Focusing on tools DOESN'T work, it's been done before. The Snowdrop Petition lead the Government to make firearms illegal in 1998 but afterwards, gun crime INCREASED 105% (1998 - 2003) and people are still being shot and killed today, not just in the streets, but in there own homes. But NOBODY goes on about GUNS do they? 🤔 Everyone's focus should not be on the tools a criminal decides to use but on the CRIMINAL JUSTICE service that is failing us. The criminal's are not SCARED of the "so-called" punishments for the crimes, that's why the prisons are FULL, not because we are catching more criminals, CONVICTION RATES are going down while CRIME RATES are increasing. 😨

A moving and tragically required campaign. Everyone in the creative industries, education, journalism and who has anything to do with young people must recognise that we have an astonishing generation of imaginative, tolerant, brave, inquisitive and moral youths trying to navigate a frightening world, a cost of living crisis, a post pandemic, post Brexit era of climate anxiety governed by liars and psychopaths. Despite this context they remain hopeful, fight for a better future, support one another and given opportunities, support, education and social connections, they thrive. Every young life is priceless but what makes knife crime even more insidious and unbearable is that it is driven by social exclusion, deprivation, lack of funding for social care, education and attacks on the very notion of society and community that, if they still exist, exist despite political intervention not because of it. We all have a duty to fight for a society that supports our wonderful young people, that celebrates them and which seeks to eradicate social exclusion, racial and economic inequality and that combats myths that promote toxic masculinity, that promote isolation, alienation and paranoia. Hopefully this campaign will one day mean that no parent has to fold away the clothes of a child lost to knife crime or at least contribute to that aspiration. All of us must do better.

There is no theatre in the UK with a sign on the door saying 'no black or brown people allowed'. Is there? So where is the issue in going? Is it that you've always been told there's a problem by certain voices? When you've always been told that the creative industries isn't diverse enough, you buy in to the rhetoric. And this is what stops you crossing the line into new territory. All you need to do is stop telling yourself that story. It's such a great 1st step to endless possibilities. Spending some time in the industry, it was a question I kept asking myself about whether it was true - that the UK creative industries wasn't diverse enough for people like me to step into spaces. Now I see it clearly. Many of us are being told, repeatedly, that there's a problem, but it's on us to stop listening as much as the industry always being open to all. This is my gripe with advocacy in this space. Many people continue to fall victim its rhetoric, when they need to spend some time looking at what is actually the reality too. #blackoutnights #uktheatres #creativeindustries

POV is known for being a mission-driven agency that champions culture drivers and the authentic human stories behind them. So, it's no wonder TheWrap tapped our Managing Partner and COO, Pilaar Terry, for her commentary about the SAG/AFTRA strike and its impact on BIPOC representation. Offering her POV, Pilaar pointed out, "Pre-strike, there were so many challenges facing film properties targeted towards BIPOC audiences. This includes lack of investment in those projects due to a dearth of confidence that these types of films would deliver a return." The strike's timing is hindering the success of DC Comics' latest release, Blue Beetle--a Latino-led film featuring Xolo Maridueña in the role of Jaime Reyes. Unfortunately, the strike prevents Maridueña from promoting the film, which could have a lasting effect on the success of future BIPOC releases. Senator Tammy Duckworth who is a wheelchair user, misses out on seeing the Barbie ® movie with her daughters because the only elevator was not working. She waited outside the theater while her daughters went in. She missed out on an experience with her daughters. She said, "I am pretty tough about these things. But this one really was a little bit of a stab to my soul." She chose not to mention the name of the theater. Let's hope she had a nice conversation with the manager of the facility. #Accessibility #DisabilityInclusion #ADA33 https://bit.ly/43TxkNh ID: Image of Tammy Duckworth on stage smiling.
