To ensure that our wetlands continue to benefit both people and wildlife, implementing effective management actions is essential. Wetland ecosystems offer numerous services, including: - 🌊 Reducing flooding by absorbing excess rainwater and runoff. - 💧 Improving water quality through natural filtration processes that remove pollutants. - 🦆 Providing vital habitats for a diverse range of wildlife species. These benefits underscore the importance of conservation efforts, as highlighted by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture.

Caribou serve as the Boreal Forest’s most prominent indicator species. This means that their health reflects the health of their environment and other animals that live in their habitat. The steady decline of the caribou’s population tells us that there are many more animals and plants whose populations are also being impacted. One of the best ways to protect caribou species? Support conservation initiatives on the ground like Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas, that can conserve massive intact landscapes that the caribou–and many other species–rely on.
