Celebrating Pride Month: A Reflection on Life’s Canvas As we step into Pride Month, I find myself in a contemplative space, diverging from the usual hustle of planning and volunteering for diversity initiatives. This year, I’m embracing a quieter role, yet the vibrant spirit of Pride remains close to my heart. Recently, while assisting a client with a headstone, my vintage rainbow-colored bracelet—an unintended nod to Pride—sparked a conversation. Initially guarded, I soon found myself engaged in a heartfelt exchange with a fellow member of the LGBTQ+ community. It was a reminder of the unexpected connections that enrich our lives. In my line of work, I’ve come to see each life as a masterpiece, each person’s story etching a unique imprint on the world. And in the end, despite our varied paths and perspectives, we share a common humanity. We are born, we live, and we pass on, leaving behind the legacy of our existence. This Pride Month, I encourage you to view yourself as a living work of art, akin to the Mona Lisa, ever-evolving and beautiful in its journey. Your mere presence is a brushstroke on the canvas of the universe, and that alone is significant. You are enough. Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend. May you seize the opportunity to add vibrant strokes to the masterpiece that is your life. #PrideMonth #Diversity #Inclusion #LifeStories #Humanity

Last week, we had the honor of hosting a thought-provoking session with Dr. Philip McAdoo. His insights on Pride, allyship, intersectionality, and DEI have inspired us to reflect more deeply on how we can become a more inclusive and supportive company during Pride month and beyond: 🤝 True allyship involves advocating for and standing up for others. Balancing the role of an ally with the risk of overstepping boundaries requires a deep commitment to listening and learning. By actively listening to the experiences and needs of those we aim to support, we can better understand when to step forward and when to step back. 🎉 Pride recognizes the many ways of being and celebrating who we are. Dr. McAdoo highlighted the progress made by young people stepping into their identities and the need to address societal fractures. It's important to (help) find spaces and communities that validate who we are and boost our confidence. 📈 Focus DEI efforts on systems rather than individuals to avoid "othering" and promote inclusive problem-solving. Measure DEI efforts with both quantitative and qualitative metrics – put some 💜into it! 👊 Real, authentic support takes the form of focusing on the benefits and experiences we offer to people at the margins. It’s important to be patient and humble, understanding that change doesn’t happen overnight. People need time to process and reflect on new ideas, opening the door to growth and transformation. Inspired by Dr. McAdoo and our team, we are committed to celebrating and supporting our/the LGBTQ+ community, during and beyond Pride Month. Actions on our radar: Open dialogue: Provide our team with a space to discuss their experiences more openly and frequently. We will reframe our monthly team coffee chats to encourage these conversations. Ongoing training: Revamp and enhance our inclusion and diversity training programs, emphasizing the importance of continuous development. Our taskforce team stresses that this is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time effort! Community engagement: Actively look for ways to support the LGBTQ+ community, including supporting local businesses. Happy Pride, everyone! 🌟 #PrideMonth #Inclusion #Diversity #Allyship #DEI #CelebratePride

As we gather with loved ones and reflect on the year gone by, let us take a moment to express gratitude for the rich tapestry of cultures, perspectives, and experiences that make our communities vibrant and diverse. This Thanksgiving, we honor the resilience and contributions of Indigenous people, whose ancestral lands we occupy. We acknowledge their deep connection to the land and their ongoing struggle for sovereignty and justice. We recognize the strength and resilience of Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Asian and other people of color, who have faced centuries of discrimination and oppression. We celebrate their achievements and their unwavering commitment to equality and opportunity for all. We embrace the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community, whose courage and visibility have expanded our understanding of love, family, and identity. We honor their ongoing fight for full acceptance and inclusion as well as members of underrepresented groups. In these times of division and uncertainty, let us remember that our differences are not a source of weakness but a source of strength. Let us commit to fostering a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered. This Thanksgiving, let us express our gratitude not just for the gifts we have received, but also for the opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with those whose experiences differ from our own. May we embrace the spirit of unity and compassion that makes our communities stronger and more resilient. What are you grateful for this year? How have you embraced unity and compassion? #inclusion #gratitude #thanksgiving2023 #humanity

As Pride Month comes to an end, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come as a society in terms of LGBTQIA+ acceptance and openness. I recently came across a video featuring Matt Lucas and Fearne Cotton discussing the significant changes in LGBTQIA+ visibility and acceptance compared to the 80s and 90s. This video resonated deeply with me, as I was a child and teenager during the 90s, a time when the media often portrayed the LGBTQIA+ community in a negative light. Growing up in the UK during that period, it was challenging to find positive representations of LGBTQIA+ individuals. The landscape was dominated by negative stereotypes and prejudices, making it difficult for many to come to terms with their identities. However, looking at where we are today, it’s inspiring to see the progress that has been made. Open conversations, increased representation, and a broader understanding of diversity have all contributed to a more inclusive society. While there’s still work to be done, it’s heartening to see the strides we’ve taken. Celebrating Pride Month is a reminder of the importance of continuing this journey towards equality and acceptance for all. Let’s keep pushing forward, advocating for change, and supporting each other in our unique journeys. #PrideMonth #LGBTQIA #Inclusion #Equality #Progress #MattLucas #FearnCotton

Where does my creative inspiration come from in my work? Everyone and everywhere! A store front, a digital Ad, a book, art walk, the tree in my front yard or a conversation that sparks the next thing! I saw a billboard today that read “There is no expiration date on ambition” What steps, actions or trainings are you taking today to surround yourself with like minded and inspiring professionals that do what you love to do? Keep seeking the aspirational stories and people that keep you hungry for more. Our North Star 💫 is always within reach. Two industry trade shows I’ll be attending to fill up my inspiration cup for 2024 are the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance Board Experience: “TheAlliance 2023" and the Inman Connect. Let’s connect there and share ideas! (Some growth mindset photos, that demonstrate what can happen when two Sisters create a on purpose team- we followed our ambition and built, one year at a time!) #careercoaching #careerdevelopment #teamcollaboration #realestate #realestateexpert #sisterteam #inspiration #clientsuccess #learnerengagement #johnlscott

🏳️🌈 Happy National Pride Day 🏳️🌈 I recently overheard a conversation between two people about Pride Month, and National Pride Day, and all the other commemorative days throughout the year. Let’s just say the level of hate and ignorance in that conversation was profound. In essence, they didn’t understand the importance and reasons for having dedicated days. So…. I had to (politely) speak up. After that conversation, I found myself utterly frustrated, and thought it pertinent to note some thoughts. Below, I note why it’s important to have days such as National Pride Day, and have added a complimentary guide on my website. Please share, as we need to continue to advocate for all peoples. “How to Be an LGBTQ+ Ally” Find the new article in my blog, posted here: https://evazachary.ca/blog Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the article. — Special commemorative days, like National Pride Day, serve several important functions: Awareness and Education: They help raise awareness and educate the public about specific issues, histories, and contributions of particular groups. For example, National Pride Day highlights the struggles and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community. Recognition and Validation: These days provide recognition and validation to groups that have historically been marginalized or underrepresented. They acknowledge their existence, rights, and contributions to society. Unity and Solidarity: Such days foster a sense of community, unity, and solidarity among members of the group being celebrated and their allies. They bring people together, often through events, parades, and gatherings, reinforcing a sense of belonging. Advocacy and Change: Commemorative days often serve as platforms for advocacy and driving social change. They can galvanize support for legislative and societal changes needed to address injustices and inequalities. Cultural Celebration: These days allow for the celebration of diverse cultures, histories, and traditions, enriching the broader cultural landscape and promoting diversity and inclusion. Special commemorative days help societies remember, honour, and learn from the past while promoting a more inclusive and equitable future. #nationalprideday #prideday #prideday2024

I’m ending Pride Month as I started it - with a touch of rainbow. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ While Pride should rightly be celebrated all year round, this month is a time to reflect on the great progress we’ve made and the important progress that still needs to be made. Check out my post from a few weeks back where I shared my full thoughts on why Pride month still is incredibly important for our community and why. 🤗 Over the last few weeks though since my initial post, I’ve certainly noticed with interest a distinct lack of usage of the rainbow flag in corporate branding and in content shared by brands, especially on social media. 🤔It raises a couple of questions: ❓Are brands this year being less performative and more inclusive/progressive all year round/internally without feeling the need to include this as part of their marketing? It’s indeed the hope that LGBTQ+ rights and people are being championed and empowered all year round, though I do also feel that external marketing is still so powerful to help our youth feel like they belong in the world and that big brands and their heroes have their backs. ❓OR are brands being more cautious at a time when LGBTQ+ rights, particularly those of our Trans community, are being threatened by our politicians and the media? I’m not sure what the answer is, though however you’ve celebrated Pride month this year, I hope you’ve been able to reflect on your own personal development and growth.
