10 years at EXADS! Meet CTO Tiago Oliveira!
Join us in celebrating Tiago's 10th work anniversary at EXADS! Tiago is our wonderful Chief Technology Officer and the backbone of EXADS' technical growth over the years.
What have you enjoyed the most about working at EXADS during the last 10 years?
It's been quite the journey for me these last 10 years at EXADS. There were many things that I enjoyed over the years, from the different technical challenges faced, to all the growth opportunities that I’ve been lucky enough to encounter. But above all, I would highlight the people. We have such a great environment and amazing crowd that it makes it easy to get to work every day.
What has been your biggest “lesson learned” in these 10 years?
I know it will sound like a big cliché but: Don’t be afraid of trying. If you get enough exposure to the right situations and challenges, more often than not, you’ll end up succeeding and delivering just what was needed and expected! Ask for help, learn from others, try and try again!
What are a few ways in which you think working at EXADS helped you grow as a professional and individual over the years?
From a technical standpoint: I started working more closely with features development, learning a lot on how to handle massive loads of traffic, how to develop with performance in mind, or what BIG data really is!
From a personal standpoint: As if all the technical growth wasn't enough, as time went by, the team of 5 I originally joined kept on growing too and now, 10 years into the future, we are now a global team of 60. Leading so many people, as a CTO, has definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone in many different ways, but it’s been a privilege to also evolve as a mentor and as a leader.
How has your job role and your team evolved over the last 10 years?
I've started at EXADS as a Software Developer. It took me about a year to make it into a Lead Developer position of a small team, eventually moving into the role of Head of Engineering and then CTO. I’ve also been tasked with the responsibility of opening and growing the EXADS Porto office. We have now a team of 60 people globally!
What about EXADS? Has the company changed a lot over the years?
Back in 2014 when I joined, the EXADS platform was dealing with just a little over 3 billion impressions per day. Fast forward to today and we now handle more than 20 billion impressions and many other events every single day! As you can imagine, that is quite the growth, and so it led EXADS to evolve in many different levels. From how we develop features, to how our infrastructure is set up, to hiring many more people, and how we organise all our work. The one thing we definitely made sure to keep during all these years is the great and supporting environment and culture!
