Nexthink's 20th Anniversary (May 2024)

In 2004, the Red Sox won the World Series for the first time since 1918, the Star Wars Trilogy was released on DVD, and World of Warcraft was released, but the most important event of the year? Nexthink being founded of course!  

It’s been 20 years since our co-founders, Patrick, Vincent and Pedro teamed up to change the way we view IT. Nexthink was born out of Pedro’s diploma project, “Modeling End-User Behavior for Intrusion Detection,” at the EPFL AI Laboratory. From finding security vulnerabilities to establishing the digital employee experience category, Nexthink has come a long way.  

From the very beginning a lot of people saw the incredible promise of this technology, including Nexthink’s very first investor, Alain Nicod. The DEX Show had the opportunity to catch up with Alain this month where he called out that Nexthink “makes complicated things very simple.” Alain had a lot of interesting stories and insights on why he believed Lausanne was the perfect breeding ground for Nexthink and startups in general and you can listen to his full episode here.  

The first product that the team went to market with, Supervisor (which became widely known as Finder), is also what was demoed to who would be our very first employee, Gregoire Jaunin, and what sold him on joining the team. Gregoire was hard at work behind the product then and continues to be a Nexthinker today. He joined us for an episode of Reality Bytes where he shared his experiences and some major moments from the last 20 years. The product has developed quite a bit over the past two decades – see how much we’ve grown in the video below.  

We've said it before and we'll say it again that the success of Nexthink is due to the incredible employees. It started from the very beginning with our three founders and their mentality of mutual trust. The founders joined our most recent company all hands and when asked how they managed three very different personalities and skill sets, Vincent Bieri said it was due to open communication and trust. Earlier this month, Vincent shared his insights on what can make or break a startup on the DEX Hub.
