It was an honor to dine with over 2,100 Houstonians as they broke their Ramadan fast at the 25th Annual Iftar Dinner. The traditional sweet dates and savory samosas were coupled with good company and conversations. Houston boasts cultural diversity like no other city and I am working to represent all cultures present in Houston, including the Muslim community. In these challenging times it’s more important than ever to come together in peace and understanding.

Houston is so blessed to be a melting pot of different cultures. Today, the Southern News Group, Global Bank, and the International Trade Center hosted their 28th annual Texas International Lunar Festival. On the same day, the Chinese Community Center hosted its own annual Lunar New Year Festival. Not only did Mayor Whitmire attend both celebrations, but he also presented two proclamations declaring February 10th as Houston International Expo Center Day and Lunar New Year Festival Day!
This past January, City of Houston Mayor's Office of Trade & International Affairs #MOTIA met with Indonesia Investment Promotion Center (IIPC), official representative of the Indonesian Ministry of Investment / Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) for the America region. Thank you to Consulate General of Indonesia - Houston Consulate General of The Republic Indonesia in Houston for this great connection to learn more about robust trade, investment and business opportunities in #Indonesia and how we can explore further collaboration with countries within the region. The Houston-Galveston Customs District is the fifth busiest gateway for U.S.-Indonesia trade (by value) and Indonesia is positioned at 26 as an international trading partner with Houston. Houston-Indonesia trade was valued at $3.2 billion in ’22. Almost 5,400 people living in metro Houston were born in Indonesia.
