About us

LTU’s College of Architecture & Design is dedicated to inspiring, educating, and motivating architecture and design leaders through “theory and practice,” Lawrence Tech’s foundational pedagogy. CoAD offers degrees in six fields: architecture (BS, MArch), game design (BFA), graphic design (BFA), industrial design (BS), interior design (BS), and transportation design (BS). With all curricula grounded in design, students are empowered to thoughtfully enter current practice modes and, when appropriate, expand the conversations to allow architecture and design to become more innovative, inclusive, and democratic.

  • CoAD congratulations go out to alumna Katharine Satullo for being an inductee into Interior Design Magazine 30/30 Detroit list. Thrilled when our LTU alumni are recognized and honored. AND.... we are also congratulating Katharine for being awarded The Dean’s Award during ShowLTU CoAD 2024! 👏🎉 She is currently working at Quinn Evans Architects and would like to salvage historic buildings in the future. Katharine says, “Historic buildings have incredible character and their stories deserve to be told.” Her time at LTU prepared her for the technical side of architecture. She learned how to approach a project theoretically and create technical drawings. She felt that CoAD created a “community among faculty and students” as well as among students themselves. Katharine will carry those relationships with her for years to come. In addition to the camaraderie, CoAD offered extensive opportunities to “network with industry professionals.” Looking back at her time in the program, she would encourage others to have fun with their projects at the beginning. The first few years should represent your ambition. Don’t worry about the reality until your upper-class years. Also, continue to enjoy and be “proud of your projects” because it shows through and elevates the work. CoAD thanks you for your wise words and wishes you all the best in your career, Katharine!

  • CoAD Congratulations goes out to Senior Architecture major, Anjelo Hana! 👏🎉 AJ received an Alumni Award at ShowLTU CoAD 2024. He is currently working at the firm PARTNERS in Architecture with a goal to design structures that rejuvenate communities affected by historical injustices. CoAD’s consistent deadlines and workflows prepared him for the quick pace of the architecture field and helped him better arrange his design process. The “undoubted support” he received from CoAD during his recent NOMAS design competition meant a lot and encouraged him to challenge himself. Some obstacles were more difficult than others, however. Deadlines were one of AJ’s biggest challenges and “coming to terms with incomplete work is a premise of the field.” He learned that not everything needs to be perfectly tied in a pretty bow, and would advise others to “just know yourself” and the softwares that leverage the best work throughout your process. CoAD wishes you luck in your goals and endeavors, AJ! #ltucoad #futureofdesign #architectureideas #architecturedrawing #architecturestudent #detroitarchitecture #render #architecture

  • A CoAD Congratulations goes out to Junior Product Design student Katelyn Wolowiec! 👏🎉 Katelyn was awarded a Chair Award at ShowLTU CoAD 2024. She is currently interning at D|Fab with the goal of working with a firm to develop projects that focus on making life easier for users. Katelyn appreciated how well CoAD prepared her for the professional design world by assigning multiple tasks at once, as it helped her manage her time and gain better organizational skills. Using her new skills, she created projects that earned her this ShowLTU CoAD award. The Chair award is something she felt honored by since she was “chosen among so many of my talented classmates.” A huge challenge she’s faced is “not immediately having all the answers.” She’s grown to learn that taking a step back to evaluate her work brings new ideas and innovations. Her advice for designers is to “do the best that you can in the time that you have” because perfection is often unattainable. CoAD loves the positivity and wishes you all the best to come Katelyn! #ltucoad #iproductdesignlife #modelingtools #productdesigninspiration #productdesign

  • A CoAD Congratulations goes out to Junior Industrial Design student Jake Heyer! 👏🎉 Jake was awarded an Alumni Award at ShowLTU CoAD 2024. He is currently interning at D|Fab as a starting point to becoming a well known as a designer. Jake’s ability to perfect his craft using CoAD’s classes and studio environment helped prepare him for the professional design world. The studio culture meant a lot to him because it fostered community and made class work more enjoyable. One of the biggest challenges he faced was working through a prototyping methodology and needing to pivot to another one quickly. With this newfound experience, one of his biggest takeaways is “don’t waste time.” CoAD wishes you the best of luck Jake! #ltucoad #iproductdesignlife #modelingtools #productdesigninspiration #productdesign
