Areas of Excessive Rainfall Today; Dangerous Heat Redeveloping Over the Southwest; Dry Thunderstorms in the Great Basin

Heavy to excessive rainfall may bring flooding today to parts of the southern Rockies, eastern Mid-Atlantic, and ArkLaTex regions. Dangerous heat will redevelop Friday through this weekend into next week over much of southern California and the Desert Southwest. NWS is extending the comment period for the Experimental National Geographic Information System (GIS) Map Viewer (“the Viewer”) web application hosted on the Amazon Web Services public cloud through May 27, 2022. The following notification  and news article contain more information. The Viewer is also embedded below.

Many of the National Weather Service data sets are available in formats that are able to be imported directly into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or your own custom map viewers or web pages.  Data formats include downloadable shapefiles and KML formats, web services, and our basemaps in shapefile format.
